 Health       Care

It is a tragedy that in the world’s richest country, many of our brothers and sisters go without healthcare. It isn’t only immoral and unjust, but illogical. We deserve better. Healthcare is a human right, one that cannot be pushed to the backburner, especially in the richest nation in the history of the world. People shouldn’t be dying because they can’t afford to visit the doctor or pay for their medication. Why should Americans continue to suffer at the hands of billionaire-private insurance companies who rip off and hurt the working and middle class? They shouldn’t.

Because of constant attacks by Republicans on the progress made through the Affordable Care Act, it is necessary to expand the discussion of how every American can access health care coverage.

We propose:

  • A single-payer, Medicare For All, system in which every American, regardless of financial status, gets the treatment and care they need. With single-payer, Americans would get the physical and mental health treatments they need without financial burden or ruin

  • Not ignoring coverage of reproductive or mental health

  • Ending “TRAP” laws, which make it as hard as possible for women to get much-needed abortions and strive to close reproductive health clinics

  • Repealing the Hyde Amendment, which disallows federal money from subsidizing abortion related care

  • Standing up for organizations like Planned Parenthood, which provide individuals, regardless of gender or sex, judgment-free care

  • Treating drug addiction with proper medical care, not prison

  • Nationwide legalization of marijuana

“Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health care is the most shocking and inhumane.”  - rev. Martin Luther king jr.

health care is a human right.
